Blue Brain Project including Henry Markram is attempting to reverse engineer the brain with a supercomputer.

 As seen in this video from ted.com, this project goes beyond the AI engines of computer games and simulations, the project is trying to re-create the functionality of the brain from the neurological level with computer code and super computer.
